Random ramblings

September 13, 2008

It is now clear that, for a middle-age person like me, it is not easy to make time –or energy– for a new hobby like this blog. Writing is not the only time-consuming thing in this new hobby that I am trying to get into. Exercises and workout are even more demanding. Driving to and from the gym, exercises can take up to two hours per session. This is very hard for a person like me who is at work almost all day. This time comes directly from personal/family time. You need a very supporting family.

As you can see, I am not very familiar with the gym and the terminology. I am asking my trainer Rudy whenever possible for the terminology, names for the exercises and the machines. But something miss because I forget to ask or I feel embarrassed to ask. For this reason and to learn more about the exercises, I need to search the internet for the descriptions or pictures (for readers). This is also one time consuming part of this hobby.

There are a lot of sites with information for exercises and routines. Some of these sites very informative and really good. I think the information available on the net is a good start for a person motivated to get into shape. There are exercises that give good results with no or very less equipment.

I am wondering if this my blog would be useful to anybody. But I think it is. First, this is my experience of a program for which I am paying lot of money. Second, I think I can be motivation for other middle-aged people like me. If I can do it, anybody can do it. Both physically and financially. Third, I am planning to post before and after pictures. So, let’s see how it works out.

Brett ‘the Jet’ Favre is surviving too

September 7, 2008

Jets and Brett Favre win their season opener. It must be very relieving to the Jets management to see Brett showing no sign of age or any stress the preseason drama might have caused.

But, it must be relieving for Favre too. In my view it is like a middle-age survival issue for Favre too. Compared to rest of us middle-aged people, Favre does not need to work. I can’t imagine he has any financial problems to managed his family. And he does not need to prove newly to anyone that he has got it. Nor there is need to prove that he still got it. I have a great respect for Favre as a great player and as a class athlete. But him going through all that during the off-season and preseason, it is just like middle-age survival issue just like you and me.

For many of us, the middle-age survival issues are not “real” issues. Of course, life is full of issues. But the middle-age issues that we are trying to survive are like most of the calls and motions that Payton Manning goes through at every snap. No, I do not think those are Manning’s middle-age crisis, they actually create crisis for other teams (and sometimes to his own team).

But it is very relieving to see Jets win. Go Jets. Next week Pats are coming. What happed to Brady is sad. Sure it will be a little easy for Jets, but I do not wish that to any player. But then again, it is a physical game and endurance is what you want on your side. Jest got Favre now. I will stop now. I do not want to zinx my own team. The Madden Curse is there to take care of the business in case we celebrate too much.
